Mayor asks for changes after “Blackout Tour” on city property

BURLINGTON — The mayor in Burlington is calling for immediate changes to reviewing events on city-owned parks property after about two dozen young people were hospitalized or taken into custody for intoxication at a rave-like event in a municipal auditorium.
The Barstool Blackout Tour party attracted about 2,000 people to the Memorial Auditorium on Friday. The city’s parks and recreation department approved the permit for the event.
Mayor Miro Weinberger tells the Burlington Free Press (http://bfpne.ws/VjnhaZ) it’s unacceptable that an event that generated that level of dangerous intoxication happened on city-owned property.
He said a lower-level city parks employee, without guidelines, approved the permit request in April.
Jesse Bridges, who just took over as head of the agency, said he will follow up on what happened.

Dem candidate withdraws after winning GOP ballot

WINDHAM — A primary candidate for the Vermont House of Representatives who ran unsuccessfully as a Democrat last month asked to have his name removed from the November ballot after he won the Republican nomination in a write-in campaign.
The Eagle-Times reports Christopher Moore, a Rockingham attorney, fell short in the Aug. 28 primary for a district seat in Windham. However, he received 31 write-in votes on the Republican side to win the party nomination.
Moore has requested that his name be removed. He said he would not accept the Republican nomination.
Moore ran as an independent in 2010 before filing as Democratic candidate this year.
