Woman ends up in hospital after hitting bucket loader

A woman smashed into the back of a town bucket loader on South Walden Road in Cabot on Monday, causing extensive damage to her Dodge Caravan, and sending both her and the loader’s driver to the hospital.

The loader, driven by Cleo Johnson, 48, of Cabot, was clearing a tree off the road a little before 1:30 p.m. when Marie Evans, 78, of Greensboro Bend, drove into its rear bumper. The sun made it difficult for her to see the bucket loader, she and a witness said.

Johnson was taken to Central Vermont Medical Center with whiplash; due to complications from the crash Evans was also taken to CVMC, and then transferred to Dartmouth Hitchcock, police said.
