Police investigate possible homicide in Newbury

NEWBURY – Police are investigating a possible murder in Newbury that they believe happened sometime in the night on Christmas Day.
State Police responded to the report of multiple gun shots at a Doe Hill and Snake Roads in Newbury around 10:11 p.m. on Dec. 25. The initial report said that Dale Rock, 43, of Newbury, had been shot and the suspect fled the scene in a dark colored Subaru Legacy.

Troopers arrived on scene at Rock’s residence, and discovered Dale Rock deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

Members of the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation B Troop are investigating this incident. Members of the Crime Scene Search Team are processing the crime scene.

Mr. Rock’s body is being transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy per the authorization of the Orange County State’s Attorney to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

State police are currently interviewing a person of interest in this case. Additional information is not available at this time, as specific details could undermine detectives’ ability to thoroughly investigate this case. When more information becomes available, an update will be issued.

Major Ed Ledo, Commander of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation of the Vermont State Police, said in response to public safety concerns:

“There is no specific information to suggest an increased risk to the Newbury community or general public as a result of this incident beyond the fact that it is a homicide investigation.”
